New Library Stock at The Hive chosen by Teens

Teenagers across the county can now choose from over 300 books selected by their peers thanks to Teen Takeover Day at The Hive.

In November a group of 5 students from Bishop Perowne CofE College, Worcester took part in Worcestershire County Councils Teen Takeover Day.

The students worked for a day at The Hive taking over from David Pearson, Stock Manager for Worcestershire County Councils Libraries and Learning Team. The group learnt about the stock selection process and then visited a library book supplier in Birmingham to select books.

The books have now been added to the collection at The Hive a partnership between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester.

Today (5 March) the students came back to The Hive to process, catalogue and display their selected book titles in the library. The books will be branded with the students team name "Chapter 5" and they will begin to publicise their new selection of books in The Hive and right across the county.

Visitors to The Hive are now able to view the teens top titles in a display cabinet on level 1, read their reviews and borrow the books. These books are chosen by teens for you!

Chapter 5, The Teen Takeover Team said: "It was an extremely fun and educational experience which allowed us to see the books we wanted in our library. It also showed us how our books get from the suppliers to the library shelves! We want to get more teenagers positively involved with books and The Hive. We will work closely with The Hive to make it more appealing to young people."

David Person, Stock Manager for Worcestershire County Council Libraries and Learning Service said: "Chapter 5 did a great job taking over my role. Giving teenagers the opportunity to select books they would like to see in their local library will make sure the stock is kept relevant and interesting. The stock is now available to borrow so why not pop in and have a look."
