New Date For Worcester Heart Walk Announced

The British Heart Foundation has announced a new date for the Worcester Heart Walk and is calling on the local community to put a spring in their step and support the event on Sunday 19 May 2013.

Donna Stokes, Fundraising Volunteer Manager for the BHF, said: “Although it is disappointing that we had to postpone the event in March due to adverse weather conditions, this gives people who may not have registered previously an opportunity to sign up.

With over 80 people registered so far, we are hoping that we can encourage even more people to join them on the new date”. The 4 mile walk will be officially started by the TV sports presenter, Jim Rosenthal as his father-in-law, Stanley Smith from Worcester is a heart patient.

The walk begins at The Hive, Sawmill Walk, The Butts, Worcester (a partnership project between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester) and continues along the scenic riverside.

It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Entry is free but participants should pre-register to receive their welcome pack with sponsor forms.

The signing in desk on the day for participants will be open from 10.00am and walkers can start between 11.00am and 12.00pm with the event finishing at 2.00pm.

Donna Stokes continued “Over 750,000 people in the UK are currently living with heart failure. If the people of Worcester get together, sign up to do a Heart Walk and raise money through sponsorship they’ll help us to give hope to people living with heart failure and their families. Having spoken to a lot of the people who have already registered, I know a lot of them have experienced heart problems and have raised sponsor money as a way of thanking the charity and helping others. The local community has been fantastic at supporting our fundraising activity, so I hope people will continue to get behind this event and put their hearts and trainer soles into helping us beat heart disease, for good.”

As a BHF Heart City, Worcester is one of nine towns and cities chosen by the nation’s heart charity to host a Heart Walk to raise money for its Mending Broken Hearts Appeal – an ambitious programme which aims to raise vital funds to find a cure for heart failure, bringing hope to millions worldwide.
