New Year, New Events at The Hive

The Hive is launching new events for children, families and adults this New Year.

Open Mic Nights, Drama Groups, adult and family learning courses, cinema specials, exhibitions and theatre performances are just some of the programme highlights starting from January.

Children and families can enjoy ‘Harry Potter Book Night’ on Thursday 5 February from 5 to 7pm. The evening will be a celebration of wizarding with lots of fun and competitions and is free to attend.

During half-term The Hive is hosting ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ performed by Box Tail Soup theatre company. This wondrous world of fantasy will be on stage on Thursday 19 February at 2pm. Tickets cost £5 (free for children under two). The Drama Group is organised every Wednesday between 4 and 5pm by University of Worcester staff and drama students and is aimed at 5 to 7-year-olds. It costs £2 per week to attend and children can come along and join in on the day.

For young people, The Hive has introduced Open Mic Nights on the last Friday of each month. This is aimed at 12 to 18-year-olds who want to showcase their own music, poetry or dance.

Worcestershire poets will be headlining in a new ‘Poetry at The Hive’ event on Monday 23 February at 7.30pm. Performances are from Todd Swift, Sarah James, Ruth Stacey, Ben Parker and newly crowned Worcestershire Young Poet Laureate, Chloe Clarke from Redditch. Tickets cost £5 (£3 for concessions). Other live events at The Hive include a delightful dance and music collaboration called ‘Two Old Instruments’ presented by Ballet in Small Spaces on Saturday 7 February at 7.30pm, and a live panel discussion on Tuesday 10 February at 6.30pm on ‘Is Nationalism Relevant in the 21st Century?’ with speakers from the University of Worcester.

A number of adult learning courses run by professional companies are also beginning in January, including Moving Forward After Divorce and Separation, a free course delivered by Relate Worcestershire every Tuesday until the 10 February, between 10am and 12.30pm, to help those who have recently divorced or separated to get back on track.

The Hive will also be screening award-winning film titles each month, starting on Sunday 1 February at 6.30pm with ‘Boyhood’. Winner of Best Film Director, Best Film Drama and Best Supporting Actress in the 2015 Golden Globes and numerous international film festival awards, ’Boyhood’ takes you on an intimate journey of human life following the same star cast over 12 years.
