VIP ceremony for Hive Summer Reading Challenge Winners

This year's Summer Reading Challenge 'Story Lab' ended with a big celebration at The Hive yesterday with an event hosted by one of the UK’s rising stars in children’s literature.

Liz Pichon, author of the popular Tom Gates book series congratulated the 168 youngsters at the ceremony who had successfully completed the challenge. She spoke passionately about her career, books and love for literature.

A large audience of family and friends of the participants watched as the winners were presented with their well deserved medals and certificates by Liz The Medal winners had each read 6 books over the Summer and have visited the Hive Young regularly to discuss the books they were reading, interact with staff and enjoy swapping and collecting Mungler cards with other Summer Reading Challengers.

Ruth Foster, Literacy and Reading Manager from Worcestershire County Council said "This is the first Summer Reading Challenge at The Hive and what a success it has been. We had many more children signing up than ever before and we believe that this is because of the spectacular environment young people now have to enjoy, learn and be inspired by literature."
